Knowit invests in the future of Umeå IK FF

Published: 26 February, 2013

The IT consultancy firm Knowit and Umeå IK FF have signed an agreement where the company will support the new junior and talent venture of the club over the next two years, with an option for extension.

– For us at Knowit, it feels very satisfying to support Umeå IK women’s soccer on its way back to the absolute top. And the path the club has chosen seems spot on. We can see a parallel to our own operations, as we too want to attract the very best, says Erik Johansson, CEO of Knowit Norrland AB.

– In addition, we would like to see more women in our own field, which is male-dominated. We are convinced that our investment in the Umeå IK women will be useful to us in a recruitment perspective, as we are showing through our actions that we invest in young, skilled women, says Erik Johansson.

The agreement means that Knowit will support the club’s new aim to develop its own talents. This venture has been created in response to the economic crisis that threatened the club in the fall or 2012.

Umeå IK FF is one of the most successful Swedish women’s soccer teams in history, with seven Swedish championship wins and two Champions League titles. Umeå IK FF’s new strategy is to come back to the top by developing its own players.

– That Knowit has chosen to collaborate with us is wonderful, as it gives us a change to secure resources regarding an important part of our sporting future. Together with Knowit, we have been able to invest our way out of the crisis, by founding yet another development team. We are very thankful that Knowit wants to be part of the venture, says Umeå IK FF’s club manager Niklas Westman.

UIK’s new sporting aim has already shown results. The club has been figuratively spitting out players to the various girls’ and junior national teams during the past month. No less than twelve players from Umeå IK FF are represented in Swedish teams, from the U-16 all the way up to Pia Sundhage’s national team.
